Maharashtra is a large and diverse state where major cities, Sahyadri forts, pilgrimage centres, wildlife reserves and a long Konkan coast create multiple travel regions. Mumbai combines waterfront landmarks, colonial-era architecture, neighbourhood culture and the country’s film industry. Pune provides access to Maratha history and hill forts, while Nashik, Shirdi, Kolhapur and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar anchor important spiritual and heritage routes. The Ajanta and Ellora caves are among India’s greatest artistic achievements. During the monsoon, the Western Ghats turn intensely green, bringing waterfalls and trekking opportunities; in winter, the coast, cities and wildlife areas become especially comfortable. Maharashtra is best explored through focused regional circuits rather than a single statewide trip.
